The project included an in-depth strategic plan and a phased construction process in order to time expenditures with fundraising. During the first phase, the building received an upgrade of its entire seismic, structural, electric, plumbing and HVAC infrastructure. In the next phase, the Cathedral received a new roof, including structural and seismic upgrades in the nave and the installation of a new copper roof system. The third phase included a new west wall, a new rose window, stone cladding and the addition of a chapel.

In 2005-2006, barrientos RYAN was again hired to conduct a feasibility analysis and master plan of the long-range needs of the entire St. Mark’s campus and for all of its programs.
